Mental health support

Are you feeling a bit stuck, not quite yourself, and regularly experiencing all sorts of symptoms? And are you finding it difficult to regain a sense of balance in your life?

A exploratory meeting This may be of help. During this consultation, we’ll look at your situation as a whole. We’ll consider not only your symptoms, but also your day-to-day life – including work, housing, relationships, health and finances. You decide what’s important to you. Your concerns are our top priority.

An exploratory meeting isn’t something you do on your own. A number of people will be working with you to see what might help you.

Who are you having this conversation with?

You’ll be having the conversation with at least two people:

  • Someone who helps you think through the problems you face in your daily life;
  • Someone who knows a lot about mental health issues and wellbeing.

Sometimes there is also someone present who has personal experience of mental health issues. This person knows what it’s like to live with them. You’ll be told in advance who will be present at the meeting.

The aim of the conversation is not to diagnose what is wrong with you. Nor is it an initial assessment or a referral. The aim is to get a clear picture and find out what might help you.

What are you discussing?

  • What matters to you
  • What you’re worried about
  • What you’ve already tried yourself
  • What support you’re already receiving
  • What might help you

And then what?

At the end, you’ll draw up a plan together. This plan will set out agreements and advice. You’ll be given tips on how to take steps yourself. These steps will be tailored to your situation. The agreements will be shared with your GP.

How do you request an interview?

Always make an appointment with your GP first. Discuss your symptoms. Tell them about this conversation and ask whether it’s right for you.
